Apple’s latest theatrical release, “F1: The Movie,” is now its top performing release to date, raking in global earnings of more than $293 million in its first ten days of release, says a Variety report.

Variety reports the film earned an impressive global take of 146 million during its opening weekend, since surpassing $293 million worldwide. This means the Brad Pitt-vehicle has overtaken Apple’s other theatrical releases – including Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” ($221 million) and Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” ($158 million) – as Apple’s biggest box office release to date. It should also be mentioned that two of Apple’s movies, “Fly Me to the Moon” ($42 million) and “Argylle” ($96 million), severely underperformed.

Apple’s “F1” release also benefited from IMAX screenings, with those showings accounting for $60 million globally, or roughly 20% of total ticket sales. The film has grossed $109.5 million to date in the United States and Canada, with other top-performing international markets including China ($22 million), the United Kingdom ($17.3 million), Mexico ($12.3 million), France ($11.5 million), and Australia ($9.8 million).

“F1” has a ways to go before it starts showing a profit, as the film’s production costs are estimated to have passed $250 million, while marketing expenses have reportedly added another $100 million to the budget. Generally, films only begin to show a profit when the box-office revenue is at least double the films combined production and promotional costs. Box office returns are generally split between studios and exhibitors.

Once F1 takes a final lap in theaters, it will become available on Apple TV+, likely later this year.
